About

A pixelated, black-and-white photo of me and my wife laughing and kissing. We are at a bar in NYC.
A portrait of my two-year-old son Oliver and me. We are smiliing at the camera.
A pixelated, blurry photo of me and my wife laughing and kissing. There are yellow and blue streetlights behind us. It is night.

As a leader of copywriters at a global corporation, a communications professional in a 30k-person institutional setting,

a photographer and videographer, journalist, poet and critic, I've created content for large institutions and companies as well as monthly, weekly, daily and literary publications.

I completed an SEO trial by fire in the corporate setting mentioned above, mastering it and the arts of content strategy and brand storytelling to draw hundreds of thousands of new eyes to the organization.

That is the story everywhere I go, though. Every role, client job ... every new season, every family vacation ... every beginning in this life is a door opening to new worlds.

Case in point: Along the way I've become an accomplished photographer who sells stock to Adobe, Alamy and Getty, and I'm proud to say I'm largely self-taught.

Takeaway: I'm proud to be brave enough to let myself surprise myself, and I seek clients who are willing to dabble with boldness and who can also brave the unexpected.

In a way, it all began with poetry.

Those who know me have heard me say that poetry saved my life.

It took me much longer than it should have to secure an undergraduate degree, and I tried everything — even nursing school — but kept coming back to English. Specifically creative writing.

Those were hard years — years of soul searching and worse — but poetry unlocked a corner of my mind — a way of thinking — that showed me myself. It gave meter to my frantic mind and put my ADHD to good use.

I found myself in my lines and used them to order the chaos of my life, and the lesson I learned in that era is the one discussed above: Every poem, stanza, line is a new life. Every client is a gift. Every connection is.

Every moment.

Whether we work together or not, I hope this resonates.

The Future:

On the road, living light, with my two boys and my partner Joni Lee.

"I believe in continual growth. I was a teacher and counselor, I've worked every job on a construction site and numerous jobs besides... But through it all, I always came back to writing, and photography. To communicating, storytelling, connecting. To lifting voices that need to be heard.

"Now, I'm finally working under my own flag. On the horizon I see myself spending the rest of my career serving the passions of organizations I believe in as an independent media maker."

What informs my poetry:

The landscape of the American West, the idea of exile, and a yearning to mesh identity with ever-shifting loci and culture. I've been a wanderer all my life. I'd write the photos of Ansel Adams crossed with Robert Frank, if I could.

What inspires my prose:

Unpopular views (I love a good fight), a feeling that the powers that be (of any party) don't necessarily have our best interests in mind, out-of-the-way people trying to build community in out-of-the-way places, and citizens rising to action (after a healthy debate, of course).

I love an underdog.

I am always searching for the trammeled narrative.

I am a believer in myth and mystery.
